How To Use the XY Scatter Analysis Module

Updated over 2 months ago

Introduction

Scatter plots, also known as XY scatter charts or scatter diagrams, are a type of data visualization used to examine the relationship between two numerical variables. They display data points as individual dots, where the position of each dot corresponds to the values of the two variables being plotted. Scatter plots are valuable for identifying patterns, trends, outliers, and correlations within data.

The Farsight® XY Scatter Analysis module is useful to compare critical signals and identify patterns that impact energy production, efficiency, and revenue – to make smarter operational decisions, faster.

In this document you will see how you can plot your own XY scatter analysis, based on your desired power plants (Solar or Wind) and tracking whichever signals you want to plot on the X and Y axis of your chart.

Steps

  1. Go to the XY Scatter Analysis page

  2. Use the calendar to pick a time period for the plotted signals. You can use the presets or input any custom period you desire

  3. The New Analysis button allows you to create a new XY Scatter Analysis

  4. Use the Add Regression button to select and configure a regression type (either Linear & Polynomial or Class type)

  5. Click on the dropdown button to select any previously created analysis you have

  6. You can verify the period for the analysis by checking the date field

  7. The Change Assets button allows you to select which assets to use. Based on the assets you picked, you can later select from their specific signals to help plot the X&Y axis

  8. View data buttons:

    • Restore the view to default

    • Expand the window

    • Export the data in XLSX

  9. You can resize the signal plotting by using the scroll bar. It will then show only the limited values you select. In the example image, the bottom axis shows the Wind speed in m/s plotted between 0 m/s and 13.9 m/s as the minimum and maximum. You can use the scroll bars to focus on new plotted limits, such as between 3 m/s and 10 m/s, and the graph will showcase the new parameters

  10. Click the XY Scatter Analysis button to open the details pop-up window. From here, you can check or reset the chosen assets, the X&Y axis signals picked, the gradient, and review changes. All changes can be either Reset or Saved from here

Note: You can use your mouse wheel to zoom in and out when hovering over the chart
