How To Use the Wind Analysis Wind Rose

Updated over 3 months ago

Introduction

A wind rose is a circular, graphical chart used to show the distribution of wind speed and direction at a specific location over a given time period. It represents a chart to match the main wind parameters (frequency, wind speed, energy) together with wind sectors.
Depending on the selected wind turbine and the selected time range, all the wind speed samples collected by the system are grouped by wind direction sectors of 30° size: [0° - 30°], [30° - 60°], [60° - 90°],..., [330° - 360°].
Each wind rose presents a different calculation performed on these wind speed samples:

  • Frequency: how many samples of wind speed we have per wind direction sector. This is a percentage because it's compared to the total amount of samples available for the selected wind turbine in the selected time range

  • Wind Speed: average wind speed of all the samples per wind direction sector

  • Energy: equivalent amount of energy generated by the wind per sector. This is calculated using the wind speed samples contained in each wind direction sector.

Note: The equivalent amount of energy generated by the wind is not the actual energy generated by the wind turbine. It is the ideal possible energy generation that is extractable from the wind

Go to: Farsight > Wind Analysis > Wind Analysis

  1. Click on the 3 dots icon to either Export or Expand the Wind Rose data

  2. Switch between the 3 different data representations for Frequency, Wind Speed, or Energy. You can view all 3 simultaneously if you expand the diagram

Here you can see all 3 different data representations for Frequency, Wind Speed, and Expected Energy.

The table below, marked as Radar data, shows the same values of the charts but in a tabular view.
