Adding Vestas Connections, Sites, and Assets to Farsight

Introduction

Integrating a Vestas turbine into Farsight is a straightforward process, provided you have the necessary information and files ready.

Farsight’s goal is to reduce the onboarding time from weeks and months to under 15 minutes, allowing for a seamless and efficient setup.

Requirements

  • Farsight® Admin account

  • Your site must be equipped with the VOB (Vestas Online Business) package, as it provides the necessary infrastructure for remote access and data retrieval. Without it, the integration cannot proceed.

  • A .pcf (Profile Configuration File) is required to establish a secure point-to-site VPN connection between Farsight and your Vestas data source. This file contains the necessary credentials and network settings for authentication and data exchange.

  • A .scc File (Site Identification) is essential for identifying and registering your sites within Farsight. It ensures that the system correctly maps and recognizes the turbines associated with your Vestas setup. By using an automated site identification approach, we remove the need for manual input, reducing potential errors and expediting the process.

  • To retrieve historical data from your site, an ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) connection string must be provided. This string enables Farsight to communicate with your SQL database and extract relevant data. The format should be as follows:

    Driver={ODBC Driver 18 for SQL Server};Server=<ip address>,1433;

    Database=customer;UID<userid>;PWD<password>; TrustServerCertificate=Yes;

    Encrypt=No;

    Example: Driver={ODBC Driver 18 for SQL Server};Server=10.10.10.19,1433;Database=customerdb;UID=user;PWD=password;TrustServerCertificate=Yes;Encrypt=No;

1. Creating Vestas connection

Once you have the requirements above, go to the Farsight® web app at https://farsight.app, and follow the path below:

Go to: Asset Manager > Asset Manager > Add Connection

2. Select Technology

1. Click on Wind

2. Click the Next button

3. Log In and Connect

1. Click on the Select manufacturer dropdown and select Vestas

2. Add the name in the VPN Username

3. Add the password in the VPN Password

4. Click on the Import Site data for period dropdown to select the import option

5. Click or drag your PCF file to the Upload .PCF File section

6. Click the Next button when done

7. Once the VPN connection is successful, click Next

4. Vestas VOB Setting

  1. Upload your .SCC file in the Upload .SCC File section

  2. Click the Next button

3. It will take a few minutes to get all the sites. Once done, click Next

4. Available sites will be added automatically. Click Save and Proceed

View Assets

You will be redirected to the Asset Manager screen once the onboarding has completed.

1. Click on the Connection you added

2. Click on the Site you added

3. This page shows all the assets you added

4. Click on the Pencil icon in the Custom Data column for your asset if you want to

change settings

5. Click on the Trash Can to delete the asset

6. Hover over the Data Management and click Recover Missing Data if you want to

recover data that is missing

7. Click the + Add Assets button to add new assets
